Glazing

Offered at no extra charge, glazing is a popular and unique way to accent your kitchen. Available on almost every wood and finish combination and with several shades to choose from provide each homeowner with a unique and perfect option. Glazing is applied to the entire surface then selectively wiped away by hand. This leaves "hang-ups" in the corners and accents other areas of detail. This process is a unique expression of an artisan's craftsmanship and as such, no two cabinets will be exactly alike.   Top

Distressing

For an aged, timeworn look similar to fine antique furniture consider distressing. Distressing creates soft corners and edges and adds randomly placed dents to the wood. These finishing techniques are created by skilled craftsman and like glazing and other hand applied finishes will vary from cabinet to cabinet.   Top

Vintage Finish

Combining distressing with special antique finish techniques creates a beautiful distinctive impression of elegant ageing. To create the vintage look, skilled craftsman combine chain distressing, worm holing and worm tracking, chisel and rasp distressing, and oversanding. A lower-sheen furniture quality catalyzed varnish finishes the process. Available on both stain and paint finishes.   Top

Paint Finish & Antique Finish

Painted finishes add a classic look to any kitchen as well as adding visual depth and interest when used as an accent. Paint finishes are created with a multi-step process that includes an oven-baked final top coat for added durability. The antique look is achieved by adding a glaze to a painted finish. The hand wiped glazing allows a subtle impression of aging to show through.   Top

Rustics

Offered by Showplace Wood Products and Shiloh Cabinetry, the rustics collections let you create an authentic warmth and homey charm. As implied by the name, rustics display various visible knots, mineral streaks and deep color variations. Available in hickory, alder, cherry and maple with a wide variety of finish, glazing and distressing options.   Top

Brushing

Brushing is a specialized way to apply a glaze to a painted finish. Instead of wiping away glaze applied to the surface a brush is used to apply it which results in extremely subtle toned strokes. As with glazing and other hand applied finishes, the exact appearance will vary from cabinet to cabinet.   Top

Molding, Glass & Bumpouts

While it can be said the cabinets make the kitchen, North Iowa Kitchens truly believes that the details define it. Details such as varied heights and stacked moldings elegantly define the upper design elements. Adding height can also make a more dramatic and elegant design statement. Fluted columns, turned legs and carved corbels add textural interest and definition as well as providing support for countertops. A tall oven cabinet turns ordinary cooking into a design center point. Adding a range hood adds depth, height and style as well as much needed ventilation. Under cabinet moldings provide definition and a place for under cabinet lighting to brighten your workspace. Mullion doors with decorative glass add texture, sparkle and the experience of space and light while displaying prized dishes or other decorative. Integrated end panels turn ordinary cabinets into fine furniture.   Top
